Why build a beautiful chapel in the middle of the desert?

09/27/2026  |  Cloister Queries

Visitors to Our Lady of Solitude Monastery Chapel sometimes wonder about the beautiful chapel they discover amid the quiet and vastness of the desert. Its peaceful setting may seem unexpected, especially after traveling the winding desert roads, but its presence here is intentional.

This sacred place was built to draw hearts toward God—to provide a place of prayer, worship, and quiet reflection amid the beauty and solitude of the desert. We hope that all who come here, whether for Mass, prayer, or simply a moment of peace, may experience something of God’s love and the beauty of His presence in this holy place.

Our cloistered, contemplative life is hidden, but it is not sterile. Visitors and pilgrims often drive great distances just to soak in the peace, with one noting, “What is it about this place that makes me feel just a little closer to heaven?”

From our very beginning, our deepest desire was to establish a Eucharistic Throne for Our Lord in the desert. Through Divine Providence and your immense generosity, this Chapel stands today as a living witness to His Eucharistic Love.
