Our Foundress, Mother Marie of St. Clare, instilled within her daughters a deep love and gratitude for the priesthood. As a means of living out this aspect of our charism, in addition to offering priests the support of our prayers, we provide for them a place of  retreat.  We are pleased to welcome priests, deacons, seminarians and religious brothers to our Clergy Guest House.

SOLITUDE

Located about 50 miles west of Phoenix, Arizona, Our Lady of Solitude Monastery is located deep within the great Sonoran desert. The surrounding desert areas provide opportunities for hiking and alone time with the Lord.

SILENCE

Often retreatants comment that the silence here is almost audible. Our hope is that the quiet atmosphere of our desert oasis will provide retreatants with a unique opportunity to listen to the voice of the Lord undisturbed.

ENCOUNTER

Retreatants are welcome to spend time in Eucharistic Adoration in Our Lady of Solitude Chapel, as well as in the private chapel in Angelica House. There is also a private courtyard and backyard area for our clergy retreatants.

Open to priests, deacons, seminarians, and religious brothers who are in good standing with their diocese/congregation* and would like to make a private, silent retreat.

The Clergy Guest House also lends itself well to Jesu Caritas Priest Support Groups or Religious Communities looking for a place of fraternal time and prayer.  There is a conference room with white board that can be used for such group gatherings.

*Note: We request that priests provide a copy of their celebret card or letter of good standing be provided from their diocese.  Letters may be emailed to us or mailed to Mother Marie Andre, Our Lady of Solitude Monastery, PO Box 639, Tonopah AZ 85354

The Clergy Guest House is a 5 bedroom retreat house complete with full kitchen, laundry facilities, private chapel, several indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and small library.  WiFi is available upon request.  The Guest House is located just steps away from Our Lady of Solitude Chapel.

Each room is supplied with a bed, linens, and a comfortable chair – much as a monastic cell.  Every two bedrooms share a full bathroom.  One bedroom has a private full bathroom.  Showers are stocked with towels, shampoo, and body wash.

There is a common room with TV and DVD player.

Note: The Retreat House is a no smoking facility.

While we do not charge for accommodations, donations are greatly appreciated and assist with defraying the costs involved with upkeep of the guest house and meals.  Suggested donation per night is $40.

The Monastery is located approximately 1 hour west of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.  Typically we are unable to provide transportation to and from the airport. Most retreatants rent a car, as Uber and Lyft are not readily available in Tonopah due to our remote location.

We ask that retreatants arrive at the Monastery no later than 6:30 p.m. for check-in.

The Clergy Guest House has a full kitchen and basic pantry staples for the retreatants’ use. The following food items are regularly available for retreatants: eggs, shelf-stable milk, cheese, nuts, bread, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, canned soup, crackers, canned tuna, canned chicken, condiments, coffee pods, and herbal tea bags.

From Monday through Saturday, the nuns offer retreatants one hot meal daily.  Because these meals are served from our monastic table, we are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions or food allergies.

There is ample space available in both the refrigerator and freezer if retreatants would like to bring their own groceries. The nearest grocery store is located on Watson Rd in Buckeye.
