
Can I make an extended retreat at the Monastery? Are there overnight facilities?
Desert Days are single day retreats only. We do not have overnight facilities onsite for the laity. The nearest hotel accommodations are approximately 40 minutes from us in Buckeye, Arizona.
Who can make desert days at Our Lady of Solitude?
Individuals or small groups are invited to come to Our Lady of Solitude Chapel for a day of prayer. Small groups from local parishes or schools often come, as well as individuals seeking a day of solitude, silence, and prayer.
Please note: we do not host couples’ retreats. Please see the Diocese of Phoenix for Marriage Encounter and other such retreats.
What areas will I have access to during my retreat?
Individuals and groups may reserve Holy Infant Room for their use. Holy Infant Room is equipped with mini-refrigerator, coffee machine, sofa and dining table (seats 5-6). The room comfortably fits as many as 10 guests. Guests are invited to bring a packed lunch – coffee, tea and water are provided.
The public Chapel is also available to for private prayer and Eucharistic Adoration. Retreatants are invited to attend daily Mass and follow along silently during our chanting of the Divine Office throughout the day.
Retreantants are also invited to use the outdoor picnic area that seats approximately 30 people. There is also a portico outside the chapel with benches and chairs that is a lovely place to pray and read.
What days of the week can I make a desert day?
We do not host desert days on Thursdays or Sundays. You are welcome to schedule desert days on any other day of the week.
What time can I arrive and how long can I stay?
Typically you can plan on arriving any time after 7 a.m. and departing no later than 4:15 p.m. Upon making your Desert Day reservation, we will let you know if that particular date has different opening/closing hours.
